Welcome to my blog!
My name is Rachelle and I am currently a Brock teacher
candidate with teachables in Mathematics and Physical Education. I have a
passion for helping others and I aspire to become an educator that changes the
way students think about their learning. Similar to my own positive educational
experiences, my goal is to become an educator that students remember because I
made a difference in their life.
As I continue my journey throughout teacher’s college,
I am very excited for the course, “Intermediate/ Senior Teaching Mathematics.”
During my time in this course, I hope to learn more about myself as a math
educator. I hope to further my knowledge in mathematical processes, and develop
the necessary tools and strategies for teaching at the intermediate and senior
level. Similarly, I hope to have many questions answered; some of these
questions include: “how will I inspire students to reach their full potential”,
“how will I keep students motivated to keep trying after they have failed?” and
“what strategies can I use to change the culture of math?” This blog will document my thoughts and feelings and
act as a personal reflection tool as I discover mathematics in the twenty-first
century.
My Vision
Since the beginning of
my teaching journey, the following quote has resonated with me,“be the change
you want to see in the world” – Mahatama Gandhi. Although I will only be one
educator in the system, I will do everything in my power to leave a lasting
impression with students. My hope is to become an educator who gets students
excited about math, and provides opportunities where students find joy and
meaning amongst all the numbers and formulas. My favourite teachers in high
school were ones who truly cared about my learning in and outside of the
classroom, believed in me and helped me build my confidence. I hope to do the
same for my future students.
